Frequently asked questions about Tanova Kitchen Waste Bins.
Are Tanova kitchen waste bins New Zealand made?
All Tanova waste bin models are designed and assembled in New Zealand, and use New Zealand-fabricated and powder-coated frames (made in Auckland).
Models that use 20L and 36L buckets/baskets, which are made in Christchurch, carry the New Zealand Made license.
What’s the difference between a full pull-out concealed kitchen waste bin and a drawer insert kitchen waste bin?
In the Tanova range, a full pull-out concealed unit consists of the frame, drawer runners (or slides) and buckets. Depending on the model type, these units are made to be installed into your cabinet attached to a fixed cabinet front (drawer style) or behind a hinged door (handle type). Either way, the unit comes complete with the drawer runners on which it slides in and out.
A drawer insert model consists of a frame and buckets only and is designed to sit on top of your drawer. It may still attach to your fixed cabinet front, but it does not have its own runners/slides. The Tanova team created this option to cater for makers that have their production lines set up for particular drawer brands and for homeowners who desire a consistent opening and closing action across their waste bin and their soft-close drawers.
I have a soft-close Tanova waste bin and the opening and closing action is different to that of the soft-close drawers in my kitchen. Why is that?
Different brands of drawer runner/drawer slide have different opening and closing actions, different load capacities and different ‘recovery’ periods after an opening/closing cycle.
Your drawers are likely built on a soft-close runner brand that differs from that used for your Tanova waste bin. This does not mean that either of them is not working properly.
The Tanova kitchen bin range is really big! How do I find the right model for my kitchen?
It is a big range, we know. Here are a couple of tips to help you narrow down to just the most suitable models:
- First, decide whether you want a full pull-out unit on its own runners or a drawer insert model that will sit on your own drawer
- Next, decide what your available cabinet width is. This will eliminate many units.
- Decide whether you want classic white or contemporary dark grey. This will also eliminate many models.
- Think about how many buckets you need to sort waste and recyclables.
- If you head to the FIT’s main Kitchen Bins category (Tanova’s parent company), there is a handy filter system that helps you narrow down the models to just a few.
I have a Tanova kitchen waste bin that isn’t opening and/or closing correctly. Can you help?
Of course! We stand behind our Tanova kitchen bin range with a warranty that is extensive and we’re here to help. Please contact us on in**@*******co.nz and one of our clever tech support people will be in touch to help diagnose what’s going on.
How do I properly clean and look after my Tanova kitchen waste bin?
We have a handy care and maintenance guide to help. You can download it from our Resources page.
My kitchen bin gets smelly. What can I do?
Odour in kitchen bins is caused by food waste breaking down, not by the bin itself.
At Tanova, we’re not great fans of internal gravity lids. We believe the drawer front on your waste bin system seals odours in as effectively as a gravity lid (and avoids the need for yet another cleaning task).
The top cover panel that is included with Tanova FLEX Standard units also provides a barrier between your cabinet and the bucket contents.
We suggest you empty the contents of your bin regularly, especially in warm weather, when food waste breaks down faster.
I’d like to see Tanova bins in action. Do you have any showrooms?
We have our own showroom in Christchurch. It’s at 4 Morse Road in Wigram, and is open 10am to 2pm Monday to Friday, by appointment.
Elsewhere in New Zealand, we have many kitchen maker/joiner partners who have Tanova products installed in their showroom. Check the Showrooms page on our FIT website to find the ones close to you.
